How does the reaccreditation process operate?
The Building and Construction Industry Improvement (Accreditation Scheme) Regulations 2005 (the Regulations) stipulate that at the end of the period of accreditation, to remain accredited, an accredited company must apply for new accreditation.
It is expected that the OFSC will receive the first reaccreditation applications from July 2009 onwards.
See the reaccreditation fact sheet for more information.
Has the legislation relating to the Scheme changed?
No. Reaccreditation is a requirement of the
Building and Construction Industry Improvement Act 2005 and Building and Construction Industry Improvement (Accreditation Scheme) Regulations 2005.
How will reaccreditation affect government agencies involved in current tender processes?
The reaccreditation process does not affect the current obligations and responsibilities of agencies managing tenders for building work that is funded directly or indirectly by the Australian Government.
Government agencies are encouraged to regularly monitor the accreditation register on fsc.gov.au. This register details the accreditation expiry date of all accredited companies. This is especially important when considering current tenders or undertaking projects where the Scheme applies.
I am considering a tender from a company who was accredited but are no longer listed on the accreditation register, what do I do?
As a first step Government agencies are encouraged to view our Accreditation Register at fsc.gov.au. This register shows currently accredited companies and those in the process of reaccreditation. If a company’s accreditation has expired and they have not applied for reaccreditation they will be removed from the register.Should your preferred company not appear on this list, you will need to contact the company noting that that only head contractors who are
currently accredited under the Scheme can enter into contracts for building work that is funded directly or indirectly by the Australian Government.
