Milestone of 800 Scheme Projects Reached
Since its inception in 2005, the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme (the Scheme) has now been applied to 800 Australian Government funded building and construction projects. This equals approximately $41.5 billion worth of building and construction work spread over the commercial, civil and residential sectors. Of these projects, those with direct Australian Government funding make up $10.6 billion worth of work, with the remaining $30.9 billion work being done on projects with indirect Australian Government funding.
Federal Safety Commissioner Jeff Willing described reaching 800 Scheme projects as “a fantastic milestone for the Scheme, which demonstrates the value of becoming accredited to companies. It’s also a positive outcome that a significant number of projects in Australia have now been constructed using the OHS standards that Accredited Contractors must maintain on their sites”.
