Have your say on the Workplace Exposure Standards for Silica
Safe Work Australia is currently evaluating the Workplace Exposure Standards for airborne contaminants to ensure they are based on the highest quality evidence and supported by a rigorous scientific approach. Comments on the draft evaluation reports and recommendations for the workplace exposure standards will be sought throughout 2019, with respirable crystalline silica to be one of the first chemicals to be addressed.
Silicosis, which is a long-term lung disease caused by inhaling large amounts of crystalline silica dust, has been identified in recent times as a serious emerging issue in the building and construction industry. The Federal Safety Commissioner Grant Lovelock strongly encourages you to consider the recommendations being put forward and submit feedback via the Safe Work Australia website. Submissions close on 30 April 2019.
