Watch: Personal WHS initiatives to build a culture of safety

Scheme accredited company BuildCorp is taking a personal approach to onsite safety

Having a workplace culture that embraces safety is critical to ensuring every worker goes home safely every day. The Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner recently visited Buildcorp to see how its personal approach to building this culture is working.

Buildcorp Managing Director, Tony Sukkar, explained that the company’s personal approach to safety includes workers setting their own safety goals and motivations for working safely. He also outlined the company’s ‘green hat initiative’ which sees new workers and apprentices wear clearly distinguishable hats so others can help keep them safe.

“Buildcorp, which has held FSC Scheme accreditation for over a decade, is continuing to strive for better safety culture through its personal approach,” said Federal Safety Commissioner David Denney. “These initiatives are a great example of engagement with the workforce which help to build a culture of safety onsite. They are simple, effective and affordable initiatives that have an immediate impact.”
