Federal Safety Officer Request For Tender Now Open

The Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC) is seeking tenders from safety professionals interested in becoming ‘Federal Safety Officers’ (FSOs).

FSOs support the operations of the Work Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme (the Scheme). Head contractor builders are generally required to be accredited under the Scheme to undertake Australian Government funded building work. With more than 600 builders accredited, the Scheme drives improved work health and safety (WHS) performance in the building and construction industry.

At the OFSC, our mission is that everyone on site goes home safely, every day. FSOs may support this mission by:

  • Conducting audits of WHS systems and onsite practices of accredited companies or companies seeking accreditation.
  • Developing educational materials and guidance for the building industry on safe work practices.
  • Assisting the Federal Safety Commissioner to investigate serious incidents and fatalities that occur at accredited builder’s work sites.

Tenders are invited from both qualified individuals and companies whose employees or subcontractors:

  • hold current WHS lead or principal auditor, or equivalent, certification to Exemplar Global or International Register of Certified Auditors, and
  • have at least 5 years WHS and auditing experience in the construction industry.

If you’re passionate about improving safety in the building industry, we want to hear from you. Individuals and companies with the required qualifications are invited to tender by 5:00pm ACT local time on 30 November 2025.
